In the early days of his career, he worked with photographs and three-dimensional works, and from around 2009, he focused on painting. In 2012, after the Great East Japan Earthquake, he released “He, She, You and Me,” which eschewed the vivid colors of his previous works, and since then he has painted many black-and-white and black-based works. In the production of his works, he repeatedly deconstructs and reconstructs the material and conceptual aspects of painting by using deformed canvases, exhibiting his works in ways other than hanging them on the wall, working with video, and attempting to create works from layers of different mediums such as acrylic, photography, glass, and silkscreen. While repeatedly deconstructing and reconstructing the material/conceptual aspects of painting, he intervenes with events that he has captured to explore the nature of painting today.
